Financial Report: The Association is in good financial standing.
Reviewed minutes from the Board of Directors meeting in December. There were some minor errors in the minutes. A motion was made by Renarde Earl to approve the minutes with minor corrections made. The motion was seconded by Deb Cheesebro. Minutes approved.
The summer conference was discussed and the membership agreed that a shorter and more centrally located conference would attract more members this year due to budget issues. The President thanked Chief Donaldson of UNCW for his willingness to host the summer conference and asked Chief Donaldson if he would be willing to host another year. The members agreed to an abbreviated conference schedule and to a more central location. Wake Tech will host the 1 ˝ day summer conference on July 9th and 10th. More information will be sent out as arrangements are completed.
Training was discussed. John Reaves indicated that surveys filled and returned at last year’s conference indicated interests in Threat Assessment Training. Jeff McCracken said he had checked into the training being considered by the University System and linking that training with our conference. However it is not feasible at this time. John Dailey talked about an outside group that NCSU was hiring to train their faculty and staff. John Reaves spoke about bringing in Jeff Allen with the FBI. Regina Lawson said that Wake Forest had used a group from the University of Nebraska. The decision was made to research more on what type of training is needed and the best resource for training.
Laurie Austin will hold a meeting next week on non-sworn training in Winston-Salem. Any interested schools should contact Laurie for meeting details.
Work with the North Carolina Justice Academy is continuing for sworn personnel. The members agreed that the program should be no longer than 24 hours of training and should be a train the trainer type of program.
Renarde Earl reported that the nomination committee had sent out requests for nominations for the elections of officers. There were no nominations returned. The current officers have all agreed to serve another term. Deb Cheesebro made a motion that elections be tabled until a discussion and a vote on the new bylaws was held. The motion was seconded by Renarde Earl. The bylaws were voted upon and unanimously approved. John Reaves will get the revised bylaws posted on the website soon. John Reaves reminded everyone to check the new bylaws for the cost of membership payable in January of each year.
The topic of elections resumed. A motion was made by Renarde Earl to elect the current slate of officers for another term. Chief Donaldson seconded the motion. All current officers were reelected to a second term.
Chief Younce spoke about hosting CLEA and ICLEA in March to provide information on accreditation. Steve Gregory stated that a webinar was not possible through Wake Tech. Chief Younce stated that he would send out the date in March for those interested.
Discussion was held about changing the winter meeting, during the N.C. Chief’s Conference to a lunch meeting. This would insure that our meeting does not coincide or interfere with other meetings being held at the conference.
Chief Younce spoke about a pilot program on 4 hours of training that Training and Standards would give credit for sworn law enforcement officers.
Meeting adjourned at 3:55 PM.
